English Department


The Department of English was started along with the establishment of the college in the year 1978. Since its inception the Department has been playing an important role, assisting the college administration in organizing almost every important event.                              



     To create a stimulating and respectful learning environment which ensures students become independent leaders in their pursuit of a well rounded, multifaceted education grounded in innovation, aspiration and imagination.



         The overall mission of the English department is to promote communicational skills, specifically the ability to read, write and think creatively. It provides divers educational opportunities to the students to become innovative, knowledgeable and compassionate members of a global community.

English Cell

            An English Language Teaching Cell has been established by initiating Jawahar Knowledge Centre as per the instructions of the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education to bring awareness among students to thrive for learning English language to encounter interviews and to face day to day challenges in acquiring jobs.

Realizing the significance of institutional accountability in the teaching
learning and evaluation process, the department implements adequate in built
mechanisms and adopts new mechanisms in achieving the goals of academic
excellence. For effective delivery of the curriculum, faculty members update their knowledge of subjects through following practices and strategies

  • Lecture and Demonstration, Research based pedagogical tools, Interactive/ blended mode of teaching methods of pedagogical tools used.

Student Learning Enrichment Programs

Identifying the academic need of the students through the analysis of the first formative test, provision of formative test improvement for the UG students in their First semester, the Peer teaching through Peer Learning Activity Zone (PLAZ), help the slow learners to adapt to the rigorous teaching learning process and to make credible academic progress. Other methods of involving students in learning include the following methods.

Continuous improvement is monitored through implementation of the annual plan of the department.

The perspective plan is drawn as short-term and long term goals in the different functions of the department such as teaching and learning, Research and development, Community engagement, Human Resource Planning and Development and Infrastructure. To implement these plans in a meaningful manner, adequate measures will be taken to mobilize resources.
