Student Council

A Student Council is a representative structure through which students in the college can become involved in the affairs of the college, working in partnership with the management, staff and students for the benefit of the college and its students under the headship of the Vice principal. The class counsellor teachers of various classes nominate CLASS REPRESENTATIVES for their respective classes. These class representatives act as members of Student Council. Literary, Sports and Fine arts conveners act as other members of the council to facilitate advices in extracurricular activities.

Functions of the College Student Council in Government Degree College, Tadipatri

 

  • 1. The College Student Council listens to the views, opinions and ideas of all students in the College.
  • 2. The College Student Council represents students’ views and is a forum for students’ concerns to be addressed. It also listens to students’ difficulties, on behalf of individuals or groups, which might not otherwise come to light. It brings the views and concerns of students forward to Senior Leadership and teachers in a diplomatic way.
  • 3. The College Student Council has a consultative role within the College. Students are consulted prior to implementation of new College policies, e.g. uniform, homework, games, sports and activities. This allows for a collaboration and all-inclusive orientation within the College.
  • 4. The College Student Council contributes to the development of College policies, including the development of College rules. The College Student Council has a say in the running of the College.
  • 5. The College Student Council provides leadership and management within the College with information. The College Student Council alerts leadership and management to student concerns of which they might not be aware and also provide leadership and management within the College with ideas and solutions to issues that students may be experiencing, both in and outside of College.
  • 6. The College Student Council is a vital channel of communication in the College. It provides leadership and management with information about the opinions of the student body and can also give feedback to the student body from Senior Leadership. The College Student Council also provides an essential link between the students and the Senior Leadership, teachers and non-teaching staff.
  • 7. The College Student Council is a learning tool for all students involved. Students learn to think critically through involvement with the College Student Council.
  • 8. The College Student Council helps to create a positive College atmosphere by providing students with a sense of ownership of their College.
  • 9. The College Student Council ensures that there is equality of treatment across the College.
  • 10. The College Student Council helps to improve student/teacher relationships.
  • 11. The College Student Council helps to monitor and where appropriate improve the day-to-day conditions for students.
  • 12. The College Student Council has a role in improving College facilities, e.g. lockers, benches or seating areas for break-times, sports facilities, College equipment, College décor (e.g. brighter walls, fixing the heating system, making the College accessible for students with access issues).
  • 13. The College Student Council helps to improve the learning environment by achieving an outstanding College environment suitable for all staff and students to work to their maximum ability.
  • 14. The College Student Council raises students’ awareness of social issues, such as poverty, the environment, health and peer pressure.
